KATHAMNDU, Aug 21: New Road Team (NRT) made a flying start to the Martyrs Memorial B Division Football League with a 6-1 thumping of Samajik Youth Club in the opening day of tournament at APF football ground in Halchowk, Kathmandu.

In the curtain raiser, Madhyapur Youth Association came from a goal down to beat Khumaltar Youth Club 2-1, scoring both goals in the dying moments.

NRT, the former A Division team demoted to second-tier competition after not featuring in the top-tier competition three years back citing financial crunch, made its intentions clear in the early moments of the match. Bishwa Jit Gurung opened the scoring in the second minute and Ritesh Malla doubled the tally three minutes late. The duo later added one goal each in the 68th and 88th minutes respectively. Pradip Gurung made it 3-0 in the 21st and Dikesh Khadgi also wrote his name in the scoresheet with the Tripureshwar-based team's fourth goal in the 53rd minute. Bhuwan Basnet scored a consolation goal for Samajik in the 78th minute.

Earlier, in the curtain raiser, Khumaltar stunned Madhyapur with a second minute goal. Rajendra Thapa Magar put Khumaltar in the driving seat. Madhyapur's effort to equalize in the 33rd minute was wasted after Yaman Rajbahak missed the target in open net.

Khumaltar was close to victory and maintained its lead before substitute Sajan Pradhan hit back the equalizer in the first minute of stoppage time. To the delight of the Thimi-based Club, Sabin Dangol smashed the winner few seconds before the final whistle. Sabin unleashed a one-touch strike from the danger zone as the ball rolled at the far post beyond the reach of Khumaltar goalkeeper.
