KATHMANDU, Feb 21: As many as one million doses of the Covishield vaccine to be administered to prevent COVID-19 arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday. Nepal purchased the vaccines from the Serum Institute of India.
An aircraft of Air India carrying the consignment of COVID-19 vaccines landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport earlier today, according to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The government had decided to procure a total of two million doses of the vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India, and jointly developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca – a British-Swedish pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company. Nepal also made an advance payment for the procurement purpose.
With the arrival of the first batch of purchased vaccine, the Government of Nepal is planning to start vaccine rollout for elderly citizens.
