Method Consultancy in association with Khwopa Engineering College, Liwali of Bhaktapur did a study on the reconstruction of buildings at Taulachhen Tole, Municipality ward number 9. According to their survey, only 23 buildings damaged due to the 2015 earthquakes out of 227 have been reconstructed.
In the same area, 21 houses are being built where the study showed that 115 buildings were damaged completely, 53 houses were partially damaged and 22 were intact with minor damages while eight houses were already damaged before the earthquakes.
Only 5,565 quake-damaged houses rebuilt in Gorkha
Talking about the reasons behind the sluggish reconstruction works, Srijana Prajapati, survey coordinator and proprietor of Method Consultancy said, “Most of the locals lack finance to rebuild their houses and the study has showed that 62 percent of the total population here doesn’t have the money and 13 percent are not able to reconstruct due to family disputes.”
One of the earthquake victims, Krishna Ram Prajapati said, “We are forced to live under temporary shelters because we don’t have enough budgets to reconstruct our houses. Living under the open sky is getting very difficult for us.”
According to engineer Tulasilal Basukala, founder of Method Consultancy, the reconstruction work has been affected and only six percent of the houses have been rebuilt due to weak government policies.
