BHAKTAPUR, Nov 29: Patients who attended a seven-day acupuncture camp organized by Sanothimi-based Shiv Yog Sadhana Kendra, Nepal claimed that the traditional Chinese therapy worked wonders for them.
Bimala Bajracharya, 53, who has had a nagging knee pain for about six years, said that she no longer feels any pain on her knees after undergoing treatment in the camp that concluded on Saturday.
In course of the treatment, an acupuncturist had put seven needles on each knee of Bimala Bajracharya, 53, for two hours daily for seven days.
Her knees could not be folded and she could not even climb stairs at her home before the treatment. But she feels relieved after the course. She hopes this works for a longer time.
A doctor denied
Bajracharya used to take medicines as advised by the doctors but that would relieve her of the pain only for the time being until the effects of the drugs lasted.
Acupuncturist Ramesh Ajad from Patna, India said that the therapy simply helps to make nerves active in the parts where patients complain about pain. Ajad, who has been practicing acupuncture for about a decade, said Bajracharya can feel better but she may need more acupuncture.
"Any type of pain related to the nervous system and particularly patients of paralysis, migraine and epilepsy can be healed," said Ajad.
Acupuncturist Rupa Regmi, who graduated from the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), some four years ago, also monitored the patients while they were undergoing the therapy. Regmi works at Nature Care Hospital.
Sixty-four-year old Tirtha Laxmi Ranjitkar from Gatthaghar was treated with five needles on her forehead during the camp. "These needles don't hurt but rather make pain disappear. I had not thought it would really heal migraine, which I had been suffering since over a year," Ranjitkar said.
Prakash Bhattarai, the Kendra's Yog teacher, said that four of the patients with chronic pain were referred to Nature Care Hospital for further treatment.
"Acupuncture camp is a basic treatment and organized for people who have been suffering from pain of any type due to problem in the nervous system," added Bhattarai.
A total of 25 patients benefitted from the camp which was held free of cost with the technical support from Nature Care Hospital, Baneswar.
