KATHMANDU, May 22: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court on Sunday against the government's decision to withdraw the cases against those accused in the 2015 Tikapur killings.
Former secretaries Dwarika Nath Dhungel and Jagadish Chandra Baral and advocate Kapildev Dhakal registered the writ petition making the Office of The Prime Minister, Home Ministry, Ministry of Law and Office of The Attorney General as defendants.
A cabinet meeting last week had decided to withdraw the cases against those accused in the Tikapur incident, in which seven police and a child were killed in an attack by protesters against security personnel. The protesters were opposing the first draft of the constitution.
The petitioners have accused the government of giving a political color to the crime.

The petitioners have claimed that the decision of the government to withdraw the cases, in the run-up to the local polls, is aimed at influencing the second phase of the local polls, slated for June 14.
The petitioners have demanded that the case withdrawal process be halted and the government ensure the rights of the victims to legal remedy.
The National Human Rights Commission has already asked the government not to withdraw the cases.
