PM Dahal requests Modi for exchanging demonetized Indian banknotes

KATHMANDU, Nov 14: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday held a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on management of 500 and 1,000 Indian currency notes in Nepal following the demonetization by the Indian government.

KATHMANDU, Nov 14: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday held a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on management of 500 and 1,000 Indian currency notes in Nepal following the demonetization by the Indian government.


The prime minister requested his Indian counterpart to arrange exchange for the demonetized Indian currency notes that are in circulation in Nepal.

“PM and Indian PM Modi talked about the exchange of the demonetized currency notes,” Press Advisor to the PM, Govinda Acharya told Republica Online, “During the conversation that lasted for some five minutes, the Indian PM assured of sorting out the issue.” 


The Prime Minister telephoned his Indian counterpart after the officials of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) told the officials of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) that the solution should be sought through the government level as it was the decision of the Indian government to demonetize the banknotes.


Indian PM Modi had announced scrapping of 1,000 and 500 rupee notes during a special address to the nation last week.
