SURKHET, Feb 2: Police have arrested a woman on the charge of killing her husband and hiding his body in a safety tank five years after the incident.
According to the Karnali Province Police Office, Bhadrakala Kami of Sirne, Jajarkot in Bheri Municipality-6, killed her husband Kale Kami by hitting him with a stick on Sunday, January 14, 2018.
The police arrested the accused from her house on Tuesday after receiving a tip off from an anonymous source that it was Bhadrakala who killed her husband five years ago.
While excavating the pit of the toilet, the police found a skull, a human skeleton with a jacket tied with a plastic rope. According to the police, after killing her husband and burying the body in the pit of the toilet, the woman told the villagers that her husband had gone to kalapahad, a generic term which refers to employment in India.

“It seems that the deceased's wife and three sons were also involved in the murder,” said DSP Santosh Niraula of the District Police Office, Jajarkot, adding, “We have arrested the wife and one son, the other two sons accused of abetting the crime are absconding.”
According to DSP Niraula, the incident happened due to a quarrel that started between the husband and wife in the afternoon of January 14, 2018. He drank alcohol at home in the afternoon and came back from the village drinking some more alcohol in the evening.
“After drinking alcohol in the evening, he started beating me with a stick. When I grabbed the stick and hit him in the head, he fell from the first floor to the front yard,” the arrested woman said in her statement to the police, “I went to the front yard and hit him with the stick in a fit of anger.”
The couple’s three sons were there when Bhadrakala hit their father with a stick. Only the eldest son was not in the village. According to the police, the injured Kale was carried to the room by his wife and three sons.
One of the arrested sons said in his statement, “We left our father in the room at night and went to sleep at the neighbor's house.”
According to the police, Kale was already dead when they came home the next morning. Bhadrakala then consulted with her three sons about the disposal of the body.
“You three are young. If I go to jail, you will be in trouble,” Bhadrakala told her sons, “ If your eldest brother and the villagers ask about your father then tell them he went to kalapahad.” Then, they planned to put the body in the toilet pit.
According to the statement of Bhadrakala, all the three sons together tied a rope around the body and dragged the body from the room and put it in the toilet’s safety tank, police said.
According to the police, the eldest son came to know about the incident only after repeated attempts to search for his father.
