Police’s Sangita Rai improves three national records

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: Sangita Rai of the departmental team Nepal Police Club improved three national records in senior 49 kg category on the first day of the Nepal Strongest Third Sunil Lal Joshi Memorial National Weightlifting Tournament on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: Sangita Rai of the departmental team Nepal Police Club improved three national records in senior 49 kg category on the first day of the Nepal Strongest Third Sunil Lal Joshi Memorial National Weightlifting Tournament on Tuesday. 


She improved her own national record in snatch lifting 59 kg, in clean and jerk lifting 76 kg and in the total by lifting 135 kg. 


She held the national records before as well with 58 kg in snatch, 75 kg in clean and jerk and 133 in total. 


Likewise, in women’s junior category, Bardiya’s Pabitra Thapa Magar won the gold lifting a total of 90 kg-- 40 in snatch and 50 in clean and jerk. 


The other departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Pallavi Kumari Chaudhary lifted a total of 88 kg to win the silver with 40 kg in snatch and 48 kg in clean and jerk.

Saptari’s Puja Mandal became third lifting a total of 79 kg—37 in snatch and 42 in clean and jerk. 


In women’s senior 45 kg, Tribhuvan Army Club’s Rita Gurung maintained her two national records. She lifted 62 kg in clean and jerk to set the previous national record and 42 kg in snatch with a total of 104 kg to set the national record and win the gold. 


Her previous record was 45 kg in snatch, 50 kg in clean and jerk and 95 in total which she had set in the Eighth National Games. 


Likewise, Jhapa’s Kareena Chaudhary set national record lifting 47 kg in snatch and won the silver. 


She lifted 103 kg in total with 56 kg in clean and jerk. Bardiya’s Hiramoti Tharu became third lifting 30 kg in snatch and 45 kg in clean and jerk to become third. 


In women’s junior 45 kg, Saptari’s Kajal Sada won the gold lifting a total of 64 kg with 27 in snatch and 37 in clean and jerk. 


Dang’s Sanjana Chaudhary became third with 30 in snatch and 30 in clean and jerk. 


In senior women’s 55 kg, Nepal Police’s Devi Kumari Chaudhary won the gold lifting a total of 142 kg with 60 in snatch and 82 in clean and jerk. 


Likewise, Army’s Gauri Chaudhary became second with 50 in snatch and 58 in clean and jerk, while APF’s Lila Rai stood third with 30 in snatch and 40 in clean and jerk. 


In women’s 49 kg senior category, Sanju Chaudhary broke the national record of Army’s Kamala Shrestha lifting 71 kg in snatch. 


The previous record was 70 kg by Shrestha. 


Also, in 64 kg, Army’s Sharada Chaudhary broke the national record of 60 kg by lifting 61 kg in snatch.
