Political parties take charge: Dang to be shut 24/7

DANG, Jan 19: On its third day, the indefinite strike demanding Dang to be the capital of province 5 has affected daily life and that of passengers commuting to various districts. Two days ago, the Sher Bahadur Deuba led government had named Rupandehi as temporary provincial capital of the province.

DANG, Jan 19: On its third day, the indefinite strike demanding Dang to be the capital of province 5 has affected daily life and that of passengers commuting to various districts. Two days ago, the Sher Bahadur Deuba led government had named Rupandehi as temporary provincial capital of the province.


Nepali Congress and the Left Alliance have taken leadership of the ongoing protests to press the government to reverse its decision on provincial capital. Political parties have formed a struggle committee to tighten the protests and shut the district for 24 hours.

Protests erupted after the government dismissed recommendations from specialists to nominate Dang as provincial capital. Protestors have halted transportation, industries and educational institutes.


Protestors have halted the Mahendra highway movement by organizing a sit-in at Lamhai and Bhaluwang, two major trade centers of Deukhuri. Passengers commuting from the highway have been stranded. Likewise, the protests at Tulsipur have affected people commuting to Salyan and Rukum.
