KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Nepali Congress chief whip Bal Krishna Khand on Wednesday urged Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara to protect the lawmakers’ right by implementing the provision laid down in the House of Representatives (HoR) Regulation 2019.
Speaking at a session of the Federal Parliament earlier today, Khand said the government should be responsible to the parliament and prime minister and ministers must answer the questions raised by lawmakers about the public concerns.

Lawmaker Khand further said that the speaker should protect the lawmakers’ right to raise questions about public concerns and that the prime minister and ministers also should answer them in accordance with the HoR Regulation 219. Khand also warned that opposition would not let the parliament meeting run if the provisions were not implemented.
Responding to concerns raised by lawmaker Khand, Speaker Mahara stated that the provision of HoR Regulation 219 is still in effect and assured the lawmakers that he would protect their right to raise questions about public concerns.
Meanwhile, Mahara directed the government to address questions raised by lawmakers in the parliament.
Nepali Congress lawmakers had obstructed the parliament meeting on last Sunday after they were denied asking questions on the government activities apprised by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
