LAMJUNG, Sept 26: The people of Rainas Municipality in Lamjung have come out onto the street in protests of the proposal about the restructuring of local units in the district.
The Rainas folks have decried the proposal sent by the District Restructuring Technical Committee to the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission, which as they claimed had demoted the municipality to a village unit.
They staged demonstrations in Besishahar in protests of the Committee proposal on Sunday too.
Lawmakers criticize proposal on local units
They accused of conspiracies to halt the development efforts in the municipality by changing it into a village body. The agitating folks had already reached the district –based offices of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist Center), demanding change in the proposal. They have submitted memorandum about their demand to the parties.
They have forewarned of intensifying protests, if their voices fell on deaf ears.
On the other hand, the people of proposed Marsyangdi, the northern part of the district, have expressed their objection to the Committee proposal. They said the village Ghanapokhara has been split in the proposed structure of the local units.
Likewise, the locals of Bichaur, Ilim Pokhari and Dudhpokhari, villages in the eastern Lamjung, are dissatisfied with the proposal. Their concern in that the location where the service center of these villages has been proposed lies in a daylong trek from the villages.
Similarly, the people of western Lanjung have turned down the Committee proposal, saying that service centers of Bhoje, Pasgaun and Gilung villages have been proposed to set up in 'inappropriate' locations and have sought its review.
The proposal that has allegedly divided the existing Chiti VDC has made the Chiti folks irate. The locals have warned that they would impose blockade in the existing district headquarters Besisahar if their demand was not addressed. RSS
