Public hearing for formality sake

BHAKTAPUR, July 15: Participants at the public hearing organized by Bhaktapur District Development Committee on Thursday vehemently criticized the authorities when the office chief was not present at the program.


Only 88 people were present at the program though the chiefs of all district-based offices, representatives of political parties and general public of all six municipalities of Bhaktapur had to take part in the public hearing carried out at the end of the fiscal year.

Chief District Officer Tej Prasad Poudel and Local Development Officer Dhruba Prasad Koirala had to respond the queries and concerns of people when the concerned authorities of the offices to answer were not present at the program. 


"All the offices of the district are still not responsible and accountable to the people. We will seek clarification from officials who were not present at public hearing program", CDO Poudel said.


He said that sand mines have been the matter of headache adding, "The operation of sand mines should be well-managed in a way to raise resources".


Similarly, LDO Koirala commented that through it is the program targeted for promoting accountability the public hearing has been done for keeping tradition. RSS
