KATHMAMNDU, Oct 20: Senior Vice President Bhawani Rana is set to become the next President of the Federation of the Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).
The fresh amendment to the statute of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) by the federation's Special General Meeting held on Thursday has paved the way for Rana to become FNCCI President unopposed.
Rana will be FNCCI's 18th president, and the first woman on FNCCI's top seat, when incumbent President Pashupati Murarka's term expires in April next year.
According to the fresh amendment, the Annual General Meeting of FNCCI, to be held on April 10 next year, will elect senior vice president, vice presidents as well as other office-bearers and members in the executive committee.
Addressing a press meet after the closed-door special general meeting, FNCCI President Muraraka said that statute has also added clauses to make the apex body of Nepali private sector more aligned to the federal structure. "The statute has also created a post of treasurer,” he added.
The meeting, however, was boycotted by six former presidents as they have reservations on the amendment.
Former President Ravi Bhakta Shrestha said that there was no conflict bar some misunderstandings. "The organization will be stronger after the amendment (of the statute)," he added.
