KATHMANDU, Dec 22: A research has shown that climate change could be the reason behind increasing diarrhoea epidemic in the last 12 years in Nepal.
The research conducted by the National Health Research Council (NHRC) made such revelations. The trends of climate change and diarrhoea were studied in the years from 2002 to 2014. The study that lasted for six months in all 75 districts revealed that the temperature risen with climate change in the mountainous region had polluted the water, resulting in diarrhoea.

NHRC Member Secretary Dr Khem Karki said the comparison over the trends of climate change and diarrhoea over 12 years showed that frequency of diarrhoea epidemic increased by 4.39 percent.
"Although the districts in the western region of the country were declared open defecation free (ODF) areas, these very districts witnessed the more diarrhoea cases," he argued, adding that the ODF area was not fully implemented, it was hastily implemented by the government. RSS
