UDAYAPUR, Feb 18: Revenue records of the first six months of current fiscal year at the Taxpayer Service Office (TSO) show that the office is well on track to meet its annual revenue target.
Total revenue collection from the office stood at Rs 145 million until mid-February of the current fiscal year. The TSO has targeted to collect Rs 210 million in revenue in this fiscal year, which will be met if the current rate continued.
Govt exceed Q3 revenue collection target
“Looking at the revenue collection until mid-February, we are hopeful that our annual target will be accomplished easily,” said Yubaraj Bhandari, chief of the TSO. “Collection in the last fiscal was Rs 200 million, and accordingly we had set a target of collecting Rs 210 million in the current fiscal year.”
Revenue collection in the first seven months is 11 percent more than the target for that time period. “We expect that current annual collection will be about 20 percent higher than the last fiscal year,” said Bhandari. “Our target for the first half has also been met.”
Residents of Triyuga Municipality (Gaighat), Chaudandi Gadhi Municipality, Belaka Municipality, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, and Rautamai Rural Municipality have been using the TSO in Gaighat to pay taxes. However, people from local units to the west of Gaighat- Katari Municipality, Tapli Rural Municipality, and Udayapur Gadhi Rural Municipality in the district have been paying taxes through Inland Revenue Office (IRO) at Lahan, Siraha.
“7,500 taxpayers are under PAN registration in our office, including 950 taxpayers under VAT registration,” added Bhandari.
The TSO was established in Gaighat four years ago to ease the payment of taxes in the district. Locals of Udayapur had to reach the Inland Revenue Office (IRO) at Lahan, Siraha for paying taxes before the establishment of the office in Gaighat. The office was established in Gaighat during the Madhes movement after the IRO at Lahan was shut down following intimidation from various armed groups.
