KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Kamal Thapa on Tuesday met Prime Minister KP Oli and handed over a memorandum that among other things demands restoration of constitutional monarchy in the country. The meeting, which comes amid RPP's preparation to launch a nationwide campaign to gather public support for a Hindu nation, dwelt on the current political situation, RPP leaders told journalists after the meeting.

RPP has been campaigning for a restoration of Nepal as a Hindu kingdom ever since the country was declared a federal republic by the Constituent Assembly in 2008.

Before handing over the memorandum, Thapa and Oli held a 45-minute one-on-one, according to RPP leaders.

The major highlights of the 22-point memorandum include demand for all-party roundtable conference to reinstate Hindu kingdom, referendum on federalism and stopping religious conversion, and probe into the property of senior officials who remained in office after 1990. Similarly, the party has also demanded increase in the reservation quota for Khas Arya and other communities from poor economic backgrounds and revision of the 1950 treaty between Nepal and India, and diplomatic steps to regain Nepali land in Susta, Kalapani and other areas occupied by neighboring India and China. After receiving the memorandum, Prime Minister Oli told RPP leaders that the government would address their legitimate concerns.
