KATHMANDU, April 12: One of the ruling alliances, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, has decided to support the revised constitution amendment bill. However, the party has objected to some of the clauses of the bill.

The fourth largest party in the parliament decided to back the bill if the Madhes-based parties will participate in the upcoming local election stipulated for May 14.

“Though the party differs on some points in the amendment bill, it would support the bill if it ensures participation of Madhesi parties in the local level elections slated for May 14,” reads a statement issued by the party spokesperson  Sushil Kumar Shrestha.

The government had registered the constitution amendment bill in the parliament on Tuesday, hoping that the main opposition CPN-UML and the UDMF would agree to the 11 points of the bill.

However, the UML has already opposed the bill arguing that the bill would strip the local bodies of their rights. Likewise, the agitating Madhes-based parties have announced that they would not support the amendment bill.

In a separate note, RPP has said that it would take decision on Friday regarding the Election Commission's decision to delete a section of its charter of the Hindu state and the constitutional monarchy.  The party also decided to grant the right to forge alliances with other parties for the upcoming local polls to its district committees to ensure victory in maximum places.
