Ruling parties reach agreement to share 19 seats in the upcoming National Assembly polls

NC gets six seats, while the Maoist Center and Unified Socialist get five seats each. As per the agreement, two seats have been allocated to the Janata Samajbadi Party and one seat to the Rastriya Janamorcha.

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: A meeting of the ruling coalition partners held on Monday at the official residence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has reached an agreement to share 19 vacant seats among the ruling parties to jointly contest in the upcoming election to the members of the National Assembly. 


The meeting decided to announce the candidates for 19 vacant seats for the National Assembly elections scheduled to be held on January 26. 


According to the Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, the meeting allocated six seats to Nepali Congress (NC), five seats each to CPN (Maoist Center) and  CPN (Unified Socialist). While two seats have been allocated to the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), one seat has been allocated to the Rastriya Janamorcha.

Of the total three vacant seats in Province 1, the seat under the women cluster has been given to CPN (Unified Socialist), while the seat under the male cluster has been given to the NC and a seat under minority cluster to Upendra Yadav-led JSP. 


In Province 2, the vacant seat under the women cluster has been given to CPN (Maoist Center) while the seat under the other cluster has been given to JSP. In Bagmati Province, the seat under the other cluster has been given to NC while the seat allocated for the women cluster has been given to CPN (Unified Socialist). In Gandaki Province, the seat under the women cluster has been given to NC while the seats under the other and dalit clusters have been given to the CPN (Maoist Center). 


In Lumbini Province, the male cluster seat has been given to NC, women seat to CPN (Unified Socialist), and dalit seat to Rastriya Janamorcha. In Karnali Province, the seat of women's cluster has been given to NC, disabled seat to CPN (Maosit Center), and seat allocated under the open cluster to the CPN (Unified Socialist). In Sudurpaschim Province, open cluster seat has been given to NC, dalit seat to CPN (Maoist Center), and a seat under women cluster to the CPN (Unified Socialist). 


Minister Karki said that the ruling parties have decided to nominate candidates for the National Assembly by allocating seats in a rational manner.
