Sagar Pun stars for Kuala Lumpur in Malaysian Premier League

KATHMANDU, July 8: Nepal all-rounder Sagar Pun who was roped in by the Malaysian Premier League outfit Kuala Lumpur has scored 66 runs to provide the team its first win in its inaugural match of the tournament on Saturday at Kuala Lumpur.

KATHMANDU, July 8: Nepal all-rounder Sagar Pun who was roped in by the Malaysian Premier League outfit Kuala Lumpur has scored 66 runs to provide the team its first win in its inaugural match of the tournament on Saturday at Kuala Lumpur. 


Pun faced 42 deliveries smashing 10 boundaries and three maximums and dominated an opening partnership of 99 runs with Saifullah Malik before losing his wicket in the first delivery of the 14th over. Kuala Lumpur restricted Penang for paltry 111 runs in 30.1 overs in the first innings. It completed the chase by nine wickets.

Nepal U-19 batsman Aasif Sheikh also featured in the match taking the wicket-keeping duties and taking three catches. Sheikh did not get the opportunity to bat. Pun also bowled four overs earlier in the match conceding only 19 runs and remained wicket-less. 19-year-old Kuala Lumpur medium pace bowler Syed Aziz was adjudged the player of the match for picking up four wickets.

The Malaysian Premier League is played between five teams in a round-robin format. All the matches are played in a 50-over format. Selangor, Universitti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Malaysian Armed Forces are the other three teams participating in the five-team event played at the cricket grounds of Kuala Lumpur, Bangi and Penang.


Kuala Lumpur will play its next match on Sunday against Penang.
