Schools shut down in Dhankuta expressing solidarity with protesters

DHANKUTA, Dec 18: Government and private schools affiliated with PABSON and N-PABSON have been closed to express solidarity for the protesters who are demanding Dhankuta as provincial capital. “We’ve reduced a day of winter vacation to support the cause,” Nanda Neupane, treasurer of PABSON from Province 1 said.

DHANKUTA, Dec 18: Government and private schools affiliated with PABSON and N-PABSON have been closed to express solidarity for the protesters who are demanding Dhankuta as provincial capital. “We’ve reduced a day of winter vacation to support the cause,” Nanda Neupane, treasurer of PABSON from Province 1 said.


Demanding Dhankuta to be the capital of Province 1; residents have shut down market and transportation in the district. Yesterday, residents had circled the Office of Regional Administration and submitted a memorandum for the same.

Today, residents relied on loudspeakers to close the market from early morning. Expressing solidarity for the cause, majority of the shops closed on their own. Those adamant were closed forcefully by the protesters, police said.


Apart from security vehicles and ambulance, the protesters have shut down transportation as well.


Residents of Dhakuta have protested time and again to call the district the provincial capital.
