While the tragic memory of the Jure Landslide that occurred in 2014 was still fresh in the people’s minds, the devastating earthquake of 2015 hit Sindhupalchowk. It was one of the hardest hit districts by the earthquake. Hundreds of people were killed, thousands were injured and a large number of human settlements were ravaged.

After 2015, Sindhupalchowk became one of the districts most affected by natural disasters, especially landslides and floods.

In just the past three months, as many as 73 people were killed, 39 are still missing, more than 40 sustained severe injuries, some 127 houses were destroyed and hundreds have been displaced by the frequent landslides and floods.

Landslides and floods in Lidi, Jambu, Bulkutte, Melamchi, Gumthang, Bhotekoshi and many other places made headlines in newspapers across the country.

The government of Nepal has also declared Sindhupalchowk as a disaster-hit area of Nepal.
