SINDHULI, Dec 18: Seven persons, including the driver, were killed when a jeep heading for Halesi from Kathmandu plunged into Sunkoshi River in Sindhuli district on Sunday.
Of the total nine passengers travelling to Halesi, seven were killed on the spot, police said. Survivor Dalmu Sherpa of Phupingkatti-6 has been taken to Kathmandu for treatment while Danurba Sherpa, 45, of the same place has gone missing in the river.
According to Inspector Nirmal Paneru of Sindhuli District Police Office, the Scorpio with registration number Ba 12 Pa 8897 skidded off the road and fell into the river at the Ratwawali Village Development Committee-3, Solukhola along the mid-hill highway.
The deceased have been identified as Sang Dorje Sherpa, 50, and Bale Sherpa, 57, of Phupingkatti in Sindhupalchowk district, Bivuti Sherpa, 50, Sarkini Sherpa, 50, jeep driver Jhapat Bahadur Gurung, 40, of Lamjung and Tukuli Sherpa, 60, of Swoyambhu, Kathmandu. The identity of a deceased is yet to be established.
A police team from the Area Police Office, Khurkot and DPO, Sindhuli had carried out the search and rescue at the accident site.
