JAJARKOT, Jan 11: The bereaved family members of forest guard, Ganesh Shahi, who was murdered in the line of duty on January 1 in Taplejung have received government support.
Minister for Forest, Shankar Bhandari, on Tuesday night arrived at Shahi's residence at Dashera – 8 in Jajarkot to extend his condolences and hand over the assistance in person. Late Shahi's wife, Pabitra Khatri Shahi, was also appointed as office helper to be effective from Tuesday.
Minister Bhandari apprised Shahi's family that the government has declared the forest guard a martyr. The government had announced a compensation of one million rupees to Shahi's family.
The government will also set up a revolving fund in the name of forest guard, Ganesh Shahi, to confer an annual award to the outstanding forest guards from across the country, Forest Department Director General, Krishna Acharya said.
"The Forest Department has decided to collect one day's salary from all employees under the forest department to support the livelihood of forest guard Shahi's family," Acharya said.
Shahi was killed by a local man while settling a land boundary dispute at a community forest in Taplejung. He is survived by two sons. His wife Pabitra is an expectant mother. RSS
