KATHMANDU, Jan 28: NiDARR, a smartphone application designed to provide individuals a secure and private platform to stay connected to their contact circles, report gender based violence, and maximizes their safety to prevent violence before it happens has been launched.

NiDARR meaning fearless in Nepali enables the user to send message to their safety contact circle with their current location, use an Instant Rescue Button and Panic Button to set off a false alarm to alert their surrounding in a sticky situation, and report on gender-based violence with pictures and audio relevant to the incident from anywhere in Nepal.

The report will be sent to response partners who will then provide their services within 12-24 hours. Safety Check-In and Contact Service Directory are two other features of the app, which provides the user access to emergency and non-emergency number.

The service directory is geo-mapped, which means the list of organization closer to the users current location will be displayed first.

Ujyalo Foundation is a young woman led NGO with a mission to support advancement of young women and their ideas through innovation, social enterprise and gender inclusive leadership in Nepal.

Launching the app on Friday, Australia’s Ambassador to Nepal Glenn White said Australia is committed to supporting and partnering with other countries to end violence against women through support services such as health and emergency accommodation, improving justice systems and preventing violence against women and girls in the first place.RSS
