Tamang remanded to custody for further investigation

LALITPUR, July 22: The District Court Lalitpur on Thursday issued orders to remand Chinimaya Tamang – accused of persuasion to change religion through human trafficking - in custody for further interrogation.

LALITPUR, July 22: The District Court Lalitpur on Thursday issued orders to remand Chinimaya Tamang – accused of persuasion to change religion through human trafficking - in custody for further interrogation.


Tamang, who hails from Dhankuta Municipality – 4 of Dhankuta district, was found to be running the Maya Orphanage Ashram from her room without renewing its license for the past five years, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Ishwor Karki, of Metropolitan Police Range Office.

The police arrested Tamang on June 24 in accusation of holding children at Jerusalem Antioch Church run by one, Hari Bahadur Tamang, in Shankhamul and forcing them to change religion.


The police raided the church with support of District Child Welfare Board and rescued at least 14 children. Church Administrator, Hari Bahadur Tamang, has been subject to a bail amount of Rs 50,000. RSS
