KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Chief of General Staff of Nepal Army, Purna Chandra Thapa, is serving as Acting Chief of Army Staff from today.
Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri will hand over the leadership of Nepal Army to Thapa amidst a special ceremony to be organized at NA Headquarters today.
As per the tradition of taking leave a month before retirement, CoAS Chhetri is handing over the leadership to Thapa today.
Thapa takes over authority as acting CoAS
Chief of General Staff Thapa will assume the post of the Chief of Army Staff from coming September 8.
Meanwhile, outgoing CoAS Chhetri has said that his term, though challenging, remained effective and positive.
Addressing the rank and file of the NA at its Headquarters on Wednesday, he said a national security policy was prepared and published in the Gazette.
Similarly, three divisions, two brigades, special force company, and a separate Gorakhkali company for women were set up during his time, he added.
He is the 42nd CoAS and taking leave from today. RSS
