Code of conduct for presidential and vice-presidential elections to come into effect from tomorrow

KATHMANDU, Feb 28: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to enforce the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, for the election of the President and Vice President from 1st March to 19th March.

KATHMANDU, Feb 28: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to enforce the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, for the election of the President and Vice President from 1st March to 19th March. 


According to the decision of the Commission dated 30th January 2023, the election to the posts of president and vice president will be held on 9th March and 17th March, respectively. According to the constitutional provisions, an electorate consisting of 332 voters in the federal parliament and 550 in the provincial assemblies will be formed for the election.

According to the approved program, the election officer's office for the presidential election has been established and nomination papers were registered on 25th February.


According to the press release issued today by Shaligram Sharma Paudel, spokesperson for the commission, the commission has enforced a code of conduct using the authority given by Section 22 of the Election Commission Act, 2073. The said code of conduct has been published in the Nepal Gazette Volume-72, Number 32 dated August 29, 2022.


The same code of conduct was also applied for the election of members of the House of Representatives and the provincial assemblies held on 20th of November last year. According to the decision of the commission, the said code of conduct applies to the Government of Nepal and ministers of the Government of Nepal, provincial governments and ministers of the provincial governments, union, province and local level employees, security agencies, security personnel and employees and government, semi-government and public organizations and their employees, political parties and political parties' fraternal organizations, to the candidates and candidates' representatives, political parties and candidates' voting and counting representatives, public office holders, media institutions, their employees and media workers and voters.
