Speaker of the dissolved HoR says he will convey this message to the Supreme Court


KATHMANDU, Jan 1: Speaker of the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR), Agni Prasad Sapkota has announced to tell the Supreme Court that dissolving parliament was an unconstitutional move made by Prime Minister KP Oli.

In a meeting with the delegation of women’s groups on Thursday, Speaker Sapkota maintained that the Constitution of Nepal does not allow Prime Minister Oli to dissolve parliament. “The current constitution does not give the authority to the Prime Minister to dissolve parliament in circumstances like this one,” he said. “I am going to give this opinion to the supreme court as well.”


Speaker Sapkota also said that he is holding wider consultation with all stakeholders concerned to see how he as the speaker of the now dissolved parliament can play his role to safeguard the constitution and work in the interests of the country and its people.


Four different women’s groups had drawn the attention of Speaker Sapkota to scrap Prime Minister Oli’s decision to dissolve parliament. The women’s groups drawing attention of Speaker Sapkota include All Nepal Women’s Association led by Amrita Thapa Magar, Socialist Women’s Association, Nepal led by Nirmala Yadav, All Nepal Women’s Association led by Meena Pun and Bibeksheel Sajha Women’s Association led by Samikshya Banskota.
