KATHMANDU, July 12: After deciding to pull out of the government, the CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal sent a letter to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The letter ended the nearly nine-month-long UML-Maoist partnership, pushing the current Oli-led government into minority on Tuesday. Here is an unofficial translation of the letter.

Subject: Withdrawal of support to government
Rt. Honorable Prime Minister,
Regarding the subject mentioned above, Nepal got its historic constitution on September 20, 2015 following the agreement among the political parties reached on May 30, 2015. Since then our party has been stressing the need for implementing the constitution, making it acceptable to all, completing the remaining task of the peace process including the issue of transitional justice and addressing the concerns of all the agitating Madhesi, Tharu and indigenous groups and providing relief and carrying out reconstruction works for the earthquake victims.
This was the spirit of the nine-point agreement reached between the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN-UML on May 5, 2016.
We have decided to withdraw our support to the incumbent government as the Oli government did not show any sign to implement past agreements including the nine-point pact and three-point gentlemen’s agreement.
We have also called back our ministers from the government. We believe that our decision will help build national consensus.
