KATHMANDU, July 25: National Assembly member Bamdev Gautam has said that there should be an arrangement where women who want to get naturalized citizenship through marriage should renounce their country's citizenship.
Speaking during the discussion on the Nepal Citizenship (First Amendment) Bill 2079 at the National Assembly meeting on Monday, Gautam said that there should be a provision to give up the citizenship of one's country before taking the naturalized citizenship.

He said that citizenship should be granted only after completing all the required processes. He emphasized that although the government has brought a bill to solve the citizenship problem, some provisions of the bill need to be amended .
"The system that has been established in our country in relation to naturalized citizenship, we need to correct a few things in that system. The one who applies for citizenship should bring a certificate from the concerned body in India that they have renounced their country's citizenship,” Gautam said.
“This is the special situation of the Nepali people. This is the problem of Terai where more than half of the population lives. To solve this problem, the government has done by bringing the Citizenship Bill. However, some things that need to be corrected and the authority concerned should work on that.”
