Three Star beats Satashidham to reach final

DAMAK, Feb 21: Three Star Club has reached the final of the third Satashi Gold Cup defeating host Satashidham Sporting Club 3-1 in Damak on Thursday.

DAMAK, Feb 21: Three Star Club has reached the final of the third Satashi Gold Cup defeating host Satashidham Sporting Club 3-1 in Damak on Thursday. 


In the first semifinal match, Ananta Tamang, Ashok Khawas and captain Bikram Lama scored the goals to send Three Star into the final. 


Tamang gave Three Star the lead in the 59th minute after both the teams threw away chance to score in the first half. 


Tamang headed in a corner from Mikchhen Tamang near the hour mark.

Khawas doubled Three Star’s advantage just a minute later as his long range shot was caught by Satashi keeper Manoj Pradhan, but he could not hold on to the ball. 


Three Star then sealed the win eight minutes from time as captain Lama scored for the team. 


The winning team had chances to add more goals to the tally as Sanjog Rai’s sixth minute shot went over the bar, while Lal Rammawai’s shot was blocked in the 25th minute. 


Satashi pulled a goal back two minutes from time as Shishir Lekhi was fouled inside the box and Padam Bhattarai sent the ball into the back of the net.

 

The host also had good chances to score, but missed them. 


Roshan Thamushang hit a shot in the ninth minute, but the ball grazed over the bar.


Likewise, Manish Thapa hit a long range shot from 30 yards out, but the ball was punched away to safety by Three Star keeper Purna Chemjong in the 44th minute. 


A-Division’s best defender Tamang was named the man of the match and was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. 


The second semifinal will be between the A-Division League top two clubs Machhindra and Tribhuvan Army on Friday.


The winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 600,000, while the runner-up gets Rs 300,000.
