TOPS starts with win

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Western region’s TOPS Higher Secondary School started its 13th Red Bull Dhorpatan UM Women’s Double League Volleyball tournament tour with a win over departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) on Sunday.

On the fourth day of the tournament, TOPS registered a match figure of 3-1 at the Dhorpatan Volleyball Training Center. TOPS comfortably claimed the first set 25-18, but went down 21-25 in the second set. However, TOPS, who featured national volleyball team vice-captain Manju Gurung and player Aruna Shahi, fought back to win second and third sets 25-21, 25-21. 


In other matches, departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) and Shivam New Diamond Academy continued their winning streak to remain at top of the table. APF saw off Meghauli Sports Club of Chitwan 25-5, 25-9, 25-11 whereas New Diamond, which is pitted at second place in the table, thumped Shree Gaun Sports Club (SGSC) of Dang 25-11, 25-15, 25-8. Before losing to New Daimond, SGSC had comfortably overwhelmed Three Star Academy 25-13, 25-3, 25-15.  Another departmental team, Nepali Police Club (NPC) was able to register two wins on the day beating Paramount Academy 25-14, 25-8, 25-8 in its first match, and hammered Springdale 25-12, 25-13, 25-11 in second.
