KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Amid criticism from various quarters, the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) on Friday withdrew the odd-even vehicle rule it had enforced on Thursday to ease the movement of VVIPs arriving in Kathmandu to participate in the Asia Pacific Summit 2018.
MTPD withdrew the rule to allow vehicles with odd and even number plates on alternate days following an instruction from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) beginning 11:30 am, Friday. Earlier this week, the MPTO had decided to bring the odd-even rule for vehicular movement in force in the Valley from November 29 to December 3.
Odd-even vehicle rule from Nov 29 to Dec 3
According to the odd-even rule, vehicles with odd number plates were allowed to run on the streets of the Valley on odd-numbered dates while vehicles with even number plates would be allowed to run on even-numbered dates.
With a fewer public vehicles in the streets, commuters had to bear the brunt of odd-even vehicle rule. A large number of people could be seen walking on the roads in the city to reach their destinations as public vehicles with odd number plates were not allowed to operate till 11:30 am Friday even in the inner city areas.
