The last union election was held eight years ago. The election should be normally held in every two years. However, it could not be held due to dispute among the students' unions regarding an age bar to contest the election.
The FSU election was scheduled to be held last year but was postponed due to dispute over admission of students at the time of election.
The TU senate had earlier decided to allow students to contest in the FSU election without setting the age bar for a year. It has also decided to set the age limit of 28 years for contenders in the next FSU election.
Students unions are still divided over the issue of age bar since the FSU election could not be held within the deadline set by the TU.
VC Khaniya informed the Republica that the TU senate has also decided today to form a committee to sort out the issue of the age bar. "The committee, which includes TU Rector and three representatives from different student unions, will solve the age bar issue within two months," he added.
