CHITWAN, Nov 29: Elephant attack on Wednesday evening killed two persons in Madi Municipality-9 of Chitwan.
The deceased have been identified as Sushila Bhandari, 35, and Krishnakali Paudel, 60.
Binita Bhandari, Sushila and Krishnakali were cutting grass in a field at around 3 pm when they heard noise of an elephant approaching. The three ran away immediately.

However, the elephant caught up with Sushila and trampled her. It then ran after Krishnakali and chased her inside the jungle. Binita managed to escape and inform the villagers about the incident. But both Sushila and Krishnakali did not survive the attack.
Sushila’s body was recovered from the bank of Riu River, informed Area Police Office, Basantapur of Madi.
“The elephant had trampled over both the victims when they were out to cut grasses,” said Shivahari Subedi, spokesman of Madi Municipality. “The situation here is so dangerous that it is advised not to get out of house in evening.”
According to municipal officials, wild elephants have started moving around the Postal Highway as fields have become empty following the harvesting season. As a result, elephant menace has increased of late.
With these two recent deaths, the number of causalities from wild animal attack has reached three in the municipality since the beginning of the current fiscal year.
