KATHMANDU, Oct 22: CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker and member of Impeachment Recommendation Committee, Amanlal Modi, has said the impeachment motion registered in the Parliament against Chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lokmam Singh Karki, would be approved by two-third majority.
At a program organized at Reporters' Club Nepal in the capital on Saturday, Modi said the motion would be approved by huge majority as it is a major part of constitution implementation.
He asserted, "No one is above the law. So it is certain that people's representatives will not leave such person trying to breach the law".
Similarly, CPM (UML) lawmaker, Rameshwor Phunyal claimed that there was no alternative to the Nepali Congress but to support the motion.
He said, "All parties should move ahead together as the time has come for leaders of the major political parties to play crucial role to pass the impeachment motion against Lokman."
Phunyal expressed the belief that the impeachment motion would be settled within a month as the Parliament meeting called for Sunday would initiate deliberations on it.
Likewise, senior leader of the Tarai-Madhes Sadbhawana Party, Ram Naresh Raya, blamed registering the impeachment motion against the CIAA chief rather than engaging efforts towards constitution implementation was only a ploy to deviate the issues of Madhes.
Stating that the impeachment motion was registered without holding any discussion with Madhesi Morcha, he argued the proposal, therefore, was neither a matter of happiness nor sorrow.
Raya said, "The impeachment motion put forth by the government and political parties in haste has put the constitution amendment process in shadow." RSS
