KATHMANDU, August 19: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has exerted pressure on Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Agni Prasad Sapkota to immediately sack 14 of its lawmakers including Madhav Kumar Nepal.
UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai drew the attention of Speaker Sapkota to immediately take action against them as per the decision made by the UML party during his meeting with the Speaker on Thursday.
Hearing on Oli’s writ petition against 14 lawmakers and Speaker...
A Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the party on Tuesday had decided to expel 14 lawmakers including senior leader Nepal, who has already filed an application to form a new party called CPN-UML (Socialist) at the Election Commission. The UML has already informed the Federal Parliament Secretariat about the party's decision.
Meanwhile, the expelled lawmakers have filed an application at the parliament secretariat not to take any action against them as the ground for taking action against them is not ‘valid’. Speaker Sapkota has to make a decision on whether to take action against the lawmakers as per their party's official decision within 15 days.
Leaders close to Nepal say new political parties will be already registered by then. This will help the dismissed lawmakers to save their positions.
