The UN has set "Holocaust Remembrance: Educating for a Better Future" as the theme for Holocaust remembrance for this year. This theme underscores the universal dimension of Holocaust education as an appropriate platform for building respect for human rights, increasing tolerance and defending our common humanity.

Addressing a press conference organized to inform about the Holocaust event at the UN House in Pulchowk on Tuesday, Israeli ambassador to Nepal Yaron Mayer said it was not only Jews who were the victims of Holocaust, but also other people. "The commemoration of the Holocaust Day provides us an opportunity to make  a resolve that these kinds of incidents do not happen again in future," he  said. A UN General Assembly resolution on November 1, 2005 first decided to celebrate International Holocaust Remembrance Day to commemorate the genocide that resulted in the deaths of at least six millions Jews. Since then, the UN as well as various countries  are holding various functions each year to mark the day.
