BANEPA, Nov 14: The office of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Kathmandu University has been vandalized by a group of All Nepal National Free Students Union Revolutionary (ANNFSU-R) on Monday morning.
The group aligned with the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) claimed responsibility of vandalism. They said that they are not happy with KU's admission process of MBBS students saying that it wasn't done on merit basis.
The group entered the University premises on seven motorcycles, but only two persons entered the VC's office. They smashed the windowpanes, door, computers, printer and other items in the VC's office.
Since the assailants were wearing masks and the CCTV cameras located at the front and back doors of the VC's office were not operating, police are yet to identify them. However, police has arrested a suspect who was reportedly among the group.
Since the attackers didn't have the pin code or a swipe card to unlock the door of the VC's office, they entered the office after someone exited the office.
"One of the attackers picked up the computer and slammed it on the floor. The same person smashed the heater as well. The other struck the door with a hammer," said an eyewitness.
When people started to gather at the office, the attackers jumped off the stairs and ran away. Although the guard chased them for some time, they could not be caught.
The CCTV installed at the main entrance of KU was also out of order.
Earlier, it was believed that the locals who wanted to build a road through KU premises might be behind this incident. But now, it is clear that ANNFSU has attacked the VC's office regarding the admission process of MBBS students. They also claimed that the University was taking random fees from the students to secure their admission.
