Unification Coordination Committee meets to resolve disputed issues

KATHMANDU, April 5:  A meeting of Party Unification Coordination Committee of CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre is underway at Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar.


The meeting is likely to settle disputed issues relating to the unification between the two parties including a division of power, election symbol and the Maoists' demand for a formal recognition of the People's War in party statute. The two taskforce committee submitted the political and ideological documents during a meeting on Tuesday.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli desired to settle these issues before his state India visit slate for April 6 to 8.  Maoist Center is demanding for an equal and dignified representation in the unified party.


The meeting also likely to declare the date of a formal announcement of their unification for April 22, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Russian communist leader Vladimir Lenin and the day when the Nepal Communist Party was established.


If the meeting will success to settle these issues, the Unification Announcement Preparation Committee will be formed, said Subash Nembang UML deputy leader of the Parliamentary Party.


To approve the unification decision UML has slated Polit Bureau and Central Committee meeting for April 19 and 20.
