Coolpad, a Chinese telecommunications company, entered the Nepali market on Monday. The company has been manufacturing telecommunication devices for the past 24 years. Coolpad has already been already launched in North America, South East Asia, South Asia and Europe. Ashim Neupane of Republica talked to Du Jinbiao, CEO of Coolpad Global Sales and Service, and Executive Vice President of Coolpad Group, to know more about the company and its business plans for Nepal. Excerpts:
What makes Coolpad different from other brands?
Coolpad has a great history and we are totally different from other brands. We are the first company to launch smart phone with dual SIM card and dual camera. Coolpad has already launched a smartphone with dual operating system. The dual operating system helps the users to use two different accounts of a same app in the same smartphone.
‘Premium phones sell really well in Nepal’
The global smartphone market is very competitive. How has been the performance of Coolpad?
We have already launched our brand in North America, South America, South East Asia and Europe. By the end of this year, we are planning to expand our business to 46 countries and within five years, we are expecting our sales to cross 100 million units. Our aim is to become one of the top five smartphone brands of Nepal.
Could you please tell us how Coolpad can contribute in Nepal's telecommunications sector?
When we bring more 4G/LT products in Nepal that will help the operator to mobilize more revenue. The more customers use our devices, the more they consume data which will help operator and service providers to grow. The rise of operators and service providers in Nepal will certainly help in the development of telecommunications sector of Nepal.
What do you think is the reason behind delay in the launch of 4G in Nepal?
Nepal is normally influenced by the Indian market. 4G was launched in Nepal after the technology became stable in India. Nepal can grow further on 4G technology by learning more from India.
What do you think Nepal should do to further expand telecommunications service?
Nepal has just transformed from 3G to 4G technology. The 4G technology is much faster than 3G and it will help people to browse the Internet much quickly. Nepal should expand 4G service all over the country. If 4G service is expanded to all over the country, the number of Internet users will increase automatically. The increase in the number of Internet users will help in further development of telecommunications sector.
