Bhaktapur is known as the oldest city of the Valley, while Bhaktapur Durbar Square is listed in the UNESCO world heritage site.


The city constitutes of marvelous Lichhavi and Malla era architectures, art and structures making it one of the best heritage sites in Nepal. The temples, durbars, settlements, alley ways and lifestyles in Bhaktapur are unique as well as historic. However, the devastating earthquakes of 2015 razed off numerous ancient architectures and structures in Bhaktapur.

Still, some grand structures such as the Nyatapola Temple, also known as five-storied temple, stand tall even after the quake due to their excellent ancient construction techniques. The age-old ponds in Bhaktapur are another spots where once can spend some peaceful time with the fish. Siddhapokhari is the most revered pond in Bhaktapur. There are various legends and stories associated to all ancient structures of the city. Bhaktapur is now a blend of ancient and modern worlds where you get to experience bits and pieces of both the worlds.


The renovation and reconstruction works that are currently under way in the city give hope that Nepal is mending its broken pieces. Laborers are working hard to enhance the beauty of Bhaktapur, while wood carvers and stone carvers are engraving their beautiful artworks. Here are some glimpses of the bright and warm city.
