KATHMANDU, April 5: Global College and TribhuGlobal College and Tribhuvan University (TU) made winning starts to the Sponsor University Cricket Cup as they defeated the A and B teams of Nepal Engineering Campus (NEC) respectively on Wednesday.
In the opening day matches played at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Tribhuvan University beat NEC B by nine wickets while in the second match of the day Global registered a 10-wicket win over NEC A.
In the first match of the day, NEC B chose to bat first after winning the toss and made 68 runs in total losing all wickets in 16.3 overs. Openers Dipesh Das and Pranshu Joshi made positive start for NEC B making 11 and 14 runs respectively.

However, the losing side lost its other batsmen cheaply. TU’s Pradeep Tandon took four wickets in four overs giving away 17 runs. Similarly, Sagar Dhakal took two wickets for TU while Rupesh Shrivastav bowled out another batsman of NEC B.
In the reply, TU met the target of 69 runs in 7.2 overs losing just one wicket. Opening batsman Rakesh Karn made the highest 35 runs for the winning side while Aschal Chaudhary and Pradeep Tandon contributed 22 and 10 runs remaining not out. Pradeep was declared the player-of-the-match.
In the second match of the day played at the same venue, NEC A opted for batting after winning the toss and made 61 runs in 14.4 overs losing all wickets. Suraj Shrestha made the highest 22 runs for NEC A while the openers Subodh Dungel and Asib Karmacharya contributed six and three runs respectively.
Global’s Bikram Gurung and Kanak Bajracharya took three wickets each while Yadav Ghale bowled out two batsmen of NEC A.
In reply, Global met the target of 62 runs in 5.4 overs with the help of opener Dipesh Chand’s 52 runs. Similarly, Dipesh’s opening partner Ashish Singh contributed two runs. Dipesh was declared the player-of-the-match.
In the quarterfinals of the tournament, TU will take on the winner between Patan Multiple Campus and NIST College while Global will compete against the winner between St Lawarence College and Shankerdev Campus.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, Patan will face NIST in the first match while Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) and Sahid Smarak College will compete in the later match of the day.
