Writ petition filed demanding clean environment

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Environmental Development and Conservation Law Forum has filed a writ petition at Supreme Court demanding the rights to life in a salubrious environment as guaranteed by the constitution.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Environmental Development and Conservation Law Forum has filed a writ petition at Supreme Court demanding the rights to life in a salubrious environment as guaranteed by the constitution. 


Forum Chairman advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha filed the petition reasoning that the government and the stakeholders ignored the conservation of clean environment for healthy living.

Chairman Shrestha demanded mandamus order to stop the activities which are polluting the environment in the Kathmandu Valley. The Office of the Prime Minister and various other related ministries, department and metropolis have been named as defendants in the petition. 


The ongoing construction activities in different places of the Kathmandu Valley have caused land and wind pollution causing serious health hazards, he argued. Not providing salubrious environment is a breach of human rights, he underscored. RSS
