ILAM, July 9: Death toll in fresh violence in Darjeeling has reached four. Aasha Kumar, who had received police bullets on Saturday during the Gorkhaland Movement in Darjeeling of West Bengal in India, succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning.
At least three people had died from police bullets in Darjeeling recently. One person died on Friday night and two more died on Saturday as the protest continues in the hilly city demanding separate Gorkhaland state.
Death toll rises to 8 in Darjeeling
Tashi Bhotiya, a cadre of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) was killed during the clash between the activists of GJM and security personnel on Friday. To protest against the incident, locals came up with mass rally on Saturday. Two more locals Suraj Sundas and Samir Gurung lost their lives during the scuffle with the Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF).
Since June 8, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha has been running Gorkhaland Movement in West Bengal demanding for separate Gorkhaland state.
Issuing a press release, Morcha Chairman Bimal Gurung stated that the Bengal government has turned barbaric against the movement and demanded for a CBI investigation of the incident.
