The influx of people visiting Chun Pahara at Bandipur to try their grip on rock climbing is increasing by the day. The rock, located in the premises of Siddha Gufa, sees a huge number of daredevils expecting a kick from the adventure sport.

Chairman of Siddha Gufa Development Committee, Lalkumar Shrestha, says, “Rock climbing is an interesting and adventures activity. The hilly regions are the most favorable locations for this sport.  People try to scale huge boulders with a rope harnessed for safety.  Rock climbing requires great resources and utmost safety precautions to ward off mishaps.”

People from all over the country visit Chun Pahara to experience the excitement.  The adventure destination can cater up to 60 climbers simultaneously, making it the largest rock climbing site in Nepal. Furthermore, rock climbing is also deemed important for mountaineers. Like in mountaineering, rock climbing also involves the use of tactful strategies to overcome vertical hurdles.

Additionally, the sport requires a number of safety equipments. A climber should be equipped with safety harnesses, helmet, belt, carabineers, dynamic rope, and tape among other safety tools. Additionally, each climber is also subjected to Rs 100 as the cover charge. Since establishing Chun Pahad as a rock climbing site, more than 10,000 people have tried their hands on the treacherous sport.

Urging the stakeholders to promote the sport in Bandipur, president of Bandipur Tourism Development Board, Baiss Gurung said, “There is a huge possibility of adventure tourism in the district. That is why local government should prepare an action plan to develop the adventure tourism as an initiative towards economic growth."

Bimalnagar carries the possibilities of improving tourism in province no 4. Promotion and preservation is the key to developing the place into a tourism hub. The Bimalnagar authorities are also hopeful that Chun Pahad will gain prominence as Nepal’s biggest training center for mountain climbing in the near future.
