ROLPA, August 1: In recent days, the number of young couples seeking divorce has increased rampantly in Rolpa.
The District Court, Rolpa has identified Child marriage and foreign employment as the major reason behind marital discord.
According to the court, in fiscal year 2016/17, altogether 323 cases of child marriage, rape, theft, murder, drug abuse, divorce etc were filed at the court. Of these cases, 152 were divorce cases. The court settled 113 of them.
“Lack of awareness among the people is giving rise to child marriages in Ropla and such marriages mostly end up in a divorce as they grow up,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ram Prasad Gharti.
In recent days, divorce cases are often settled with mutual understanding in the villages, too. As per the details provided by the district court, in fiscal year 2015/16 too, there were 323 various cases filed at the court of which 147 were divorce cases.
“Child marriage and divorce cases are going parallel in Rolpa. The negative impact of social media, forgetting one's own social status are other reasons behind the rising number of divorce,” said advocate Jit Bikram Malla.
