KATHMANDU, June 14: Family of Muktinath Adhikari, who was brutally murdered by Maoists in 2002, filed a complaint at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) on Tuesday.

Adhikari’s wife Indira, son Suman and daughter Sabita, jointly filed the complaint demanding legal action against the perpetrators of the murder.

Adhikari family has named local Maoist leaders Devendra Paudel, Sadhuram Ghimire and Dhruba Adhikari as the perpetrators behind the murder. The family has claimed that they were forced to leave their ancestral land in Lamjung because of the murder and death threats against the entire family.

The Adhikari family has also demanded that the then top Maoist leaders Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Baburam Bhattarai also be made accountable for the murder of Muktinath as the two have publicly admitted that killing Muktinath was a blunder by their side.

Muktinath, the headmaster at Panini Sanskrit Higher Secondary School at Duradanda of Lamjung, was abducted by Maoist cadres on January 16, 2002 when he was teaching a science class. That afternoon, he was taken to a hillock near the village, tied to a tree with his muffler and shot in the head. The Maoists had accused him of being an informant for security forces after he refused to donate 25 percent of the teachers’ Dasain bonus to the Maoists.

Likewise, Purni Maya Lama, whose husband Arjun was abducted and killed by Maoists cadres in Kavrepalanchowk in 2005, also filed a complaint at the TRC on Tuesday.

Lama family has been claiming that Arjun was abducted on April 29, 2005 and later killed by Maoists including incumbent minister Agni Sapkota, Surya Man Dong, Yadav Paudel, Bhola Aryal, Karnakhar Gautam and Norbu Moktan. A court case related to the murder is still sub judice against Sapkota.

A group of three dozens victims of the armed conflict era on Tuesday reached TRC office together but filed their individual complaints.
