KMC asks 52 taxpayers to clear tax dues

KATHMANDU, August 8: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has asked 52 taxpayers, which include a number of government bodies and top corporate houses, to settle the dues of their property taxes.

KATHMANDU, August 8: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has asked 52 taxpayers, which include a number of government bodies and top corporate houses, to settle the dues of their property taxes.


Giving an ultimatum of 30 days, the KMC has made public the name of the companies that have been refusing to clear their tax liabilities on time. If these companies fail to pay their taxes within the given time period, their businesses will be sealed and property withheld, reads a KMC notice.

According to KMC officials, the metropolis has taken the action after the taxpayers in question ignored the repeated call by the ward offices concerned to pay the taxes.


Nepal Food Corporation, National Trading Limited, Rastriya Nachghar and Nepal Electricity Authority are among the government entities that have not paid their tax dues. Two years ago, Nepal Food Corporation and National Trading Limited were merged to form a single entity named Food Management and Trading Company. These government bodies also have a backlog of the tax dues of past years, said a KMC source.


Likewise, the top business houses from private sectors including Varun Beverages Pvt Ltd, City Center, Ranjana Trade Center, Jay Nepal Hall, Chamber Building, Riddhi Siddhi Developers, Vaishali Hotel Pvt Ltd and Gopi Krishna Movies Pvt Ltd are also in the list of not paying taxes on time. The KMC also issued the notice against Sidhhartha Vanasthali School, Nepal Scout, Sajha Bhandar, Nepali Jame Masjid, Ajay Raj Sumargi, Nepal Red Cross Society and Kathmandu Jaycees, among others, to clear their tax dues.
