DHANGADHI, Nov 20: On Friday, Bijay Thapa, 25, of Dhangadhi-4 was found murdered in the compound of Hotel Kalash, which lies in front of the office of the province chief. Thapa, whose head was bleeding profusely, was seen being dragged by another youth Ashish Sethi. Meanwhile, Dipendra Chaudhary, who came out of his house after hearing the noise took Sethi to the police.
The terrace of Kalash Hotel has become a hub for youngsters doing drugs, according to locals. The murder which took place when the market places were still open and people were still moving on the streets has left the locals shocked.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Kailali, Hari Oli informed Republica that a murder case has been filed against Sethi. But Sethi claimed that he is not responsible for the murder and was instead trying to take the victim to hospital. On November 9, which was the main day of Tihar, a man, around 40 years old, was found dead at the bus station of Dhangadhi. His body was recovered in a miserable state. As per the identity card found in his pocket, his name is Mohan Bohara and he is from Dharkot, Bajura. It has been found that he was an assistant driver of a vehicle in Birgunj. As his family members are yet to be contacted, police have handed over his body to the municipality. Police are so far clueless about the culprits. DSP Oli said that search for the perpetrators is underway.
On Monday, Ishwori Chaudhary, 17, was returning home from college when she was attacked by a group of 5 to 6 people in the broad daylight. Chaudhary, an 11th grader at Durgalaxmi Multiple Campus, was brutally thrashed on a busy highway of Attariya and later thrown down the sewer. Her assailants thought she had died but fortunately, she regained her consciousness.
"A group of people started beating me up and I lost consciousness. Later, when I woke up I was in the sewer and I cried for help. Locals walking on the highway called the police and rescued me," said Chaudhary. Police have not been able to book the culprits so far.
Worried by the growing incidents of crime and violence, the locals have started questioning the police's role.
However, DSP Oli who is the acting chief of Kailali Police stated it is unfair to doubt the police just because of a few incidents.
